Sky customers fume over ‘very frustrating’ broadband bug affecting people’s mobiles

SKY customers have been hit by a strange bug that’s affecting how some people make and receive calls.

The firm is trying to find a solution to the problem which first emerged back in December – though it appears to only affect those on the Three network.

The issue itself only presents itself when using the Sky Max Hub too.

Wi-Fi Calling is a handy feature available on iPhone and Android, offered by most mobile networks in the UK.

It channels calls to your phone via Wi-Fi instead of a 4G or 5G cellular signal.

This is particularly helpful for those who live in poor signal areas.

But some Sky Broadband customers have noticed that the feature has mysteriously stopped working for them.

“For some reason my phone has stopped working on WiFi calling at home on my sky broadband GB service,” one user said.

“It only impacts WiFi calling at home and not on other providers WiFi when there is a bad signal.”

Another wrote: “Very very very frustrating and Sky Help is not much help for this type of problem.”

It’s thought the glitch may be due to a technical change made last year.

A Sky rep responded to affected customer’s on the company’s support forum, thanking them for their “perseverance and patience whilst we work through this technical issue”.

“Our support teams are working on a solution, and we will be updating customers connections automatically,” the rep said.

Some users have found a workaround by digging out their old router and switching it over.

Sky told The Sun that the issue only affects a small number of Sky Broadband customers.

The firm said it is working alongside Three to resolve it and has reconfigured the Sky Hub to restore Wi-Fi calling for all customers identified.

Customers do not need to take any action – Sky says it will deploy the fix remotely.

APPLIANCES THAT INTERFERE WITH YOUR WI-FI

Popular home appliances and electricals can interfere with your Wi-Fi signal when placed too near to your router. These include:

  • Speakers
  • TV
  • Microwave
  • Oven
  • Christmas lights
  • Refrigerator
  • Dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Cordless phone
  • Kettle
  • Toaster
  • Water pipes
  • Other people’s WiFi routers
